| Project Description: |
| The Golden Paw is a luxury boarding and day-care kennel
for dogs and cats located in the Morena Blvd. area of San Diego, California.
The project is an adaptive reuse of an existing concrete and steel warerhouse
style structure formerly occupied by a bank computer service center, a
nightclub for teens and other uses. The building was in great need of an
upgrade. The following features were incorporated in the finished product. |
- Extensive use of natural light through the use of a large number of
skylights. The number and size of the skylights was optimized to minimize
the amount of electrical lighting needed during the daytime. Natural
light is also of great benefit to animal guests.
- Polished stained concrete floors throughout.
- Awnings on the exterior to soften the harsh profile of the building.
- A new large and inviting entrance cut into the existing reinforced
concrete wall. New windows also cut into the existing wall.
- New mechanical and electrical systems.
- Customized luxury guest suites for dogs equipped with web cams, televisions,
couches, rugs and other features.
